LOST DVD Contest: We Have a Winner!

When I introduced this contest a few weeks ago, I underestimated the time I would have to sort through, research and analyze each entry. Apologies for the delay.

I was thrilled to have received almost 40 entries for the contest, and was caught off guard by how many were so very personal. For that reason, I made the executive decision to not post many publicly.

This was by far the most challenging of my contests to judge, and I am quite impressed at the degree of creativity. I sincerely appreciate the amount of thought, time and effort that each entrant clearly applied to their contribution. To give you an idea of the variety, I received poems, letters, short stories, song lyrics, cartoons, illustrations and even a Powerpoint presentation.

The contest came down to these 4 choices:

ANNA
Juliet-inspired video
(w/a shout-out to my frenemy Natalie Abrams)

DALE
A flash sideways illustration

DAVID C
Model of the Swan Hatch using Construx building toys

SARAH H
The philosophical perspective

Believe me when I tell you that it was a struggle to select just one winner. But I am very happy to announce that Anna has won all 5 seasons of Lost on DVD, autographed by various cast and crew!

I would like to ask that everyone who submitted something to please email me your shipping address and let me know if you'd prefer a S6 premiere bag or Lost fan pin.

Congratulations to Anna and to everyone who participated. You all continue to amaze and inspire me. To those who disclosed personal stories and journeys, I am grateful for your trust and admire your bravery. This show has truly had a profound effect on the lives of millions.

Thank you!

LOST Contest! Be Creative, Win Seasons 1-5 on DVD (Updated w/autographs!)

Thanks to a very generous fellow fan (who wishes to remain anonymous), I have seasons 1-5 of Lost to give away on DVD!  And one lucky person will win ALL FIVE sets.

UPDATE: I was able to get the DVDs autographed by the following cast and crew!
  • Sam Anderson (Bernard)
  • Sterling Beaumon (young Ben)
  • Francois Chau (Dr. Pierre Chang)
  • Andrea Gabriel (Nadia)
  • Javier Grillo-Marxuach: producer/writer (House of the Rising Sun, All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues, Hearts and Minds, ...In Translation, Born to Run, Orientation, Collision)
  • Neil Hopkins (Liam Pace)
  • Eric Lange (Radzinsky)
  • Ade McCormack (Yemi)
  • Gregg Nations: continuity guru, producer and writer (Egg Town, Some Like it Hoth, Ab Aeterno)
  • Daniel Roebuck (Dr. Arzt)
  • Jordan Rosenberg: writer (Par Avion)
  • Sean Whalen (Frogurt)
I have only received a few entries thus far, and have extended the contest through Saturday night before the finale. The prize has been significantly kicked up a notch, so I hope that motivates you to enter!

I've hosted contests before, but given what is up for grabs and the pending series finale - this one had to be different. In exchange for the opportunity to win the five autographed DVD sets, I am seeking a representation of what Lost has meant to you over the years. It can be a photograph, poem, song, drawing, sketch, painting, sculpture, video, graphic, digital rendering, etc. Be creative, and use whatever medium/format speaks to you the most. It does not have to be time-consuming and elaborate.

If you would like to enter and be eligible to win all 5 autographed Lost DVD sets, here are the rules:
  • Your entry must be original and new, created just for this contest; nothing pre-existing. Between Google and Facebook, I will do my homework and double check. :)
  • Video and audio entries must be 3 minutes or less.
  • Only one entry per person please.
  • The contest is open to those in the U.S. and Canada only (DVDs are Region 1).
  • Everyone who enters will receive something in return, either a Lost Fan pin or S6 premiere bag.
  • All entries must be emailed to me (whether actual files or links to your contribution).
If you could please help spread the word about this contest by posting a link on your Facebook wall and via Twitter, I would really appreciate it.

For questions and entries, please email me (jo [at] jopinionated [dot] com).

The deadline for entries is now Saturday, May 22 at 11:59pm. Ready, go!

Want to Win a LOST Tee? Let's Discuss Your Finale Plans

UPDATE: We have a winner! Would the lovely person who has named themselves Shoes McCoat please email me - you've won a LOST tee from CafePress! Thank you to all who entered - I have several Lost tees to give away in the next two months, so you still have a chance to win one. :)
---
CafePress, one of my favorite pop culture product sites, has partnered with ABC to allow fans to design and sell Lost themed tees. As a result, there are some incredibly creative and funny shirts for sale that I highly recommend you peruse in the CafePress Lost T-Shirt store

The lovely folks at CafePress sent me this fantastic tee to illustrate just one of the many designs available. And they recently rewarded the winner of the Lost tee design contest with a trip to Oahu!

If YOU would like to win one of the Lost tees featured in the CafePress Lost T-Shirt store (and live in the U.S. or Canada), simply leave your answers to the following two questions in a Comment below by Thursday, April 1 and one winning entry will be drawn from a hat:

  1. Which fan-designed Lost tee from CafePress is your favorite? [name or link]
  2. Where are you planning to watch the Lost Series Finale on May 23, 2010?

Thank you in advance for participating!

LOST S5 Dharma DVD Photo Contest WINNER!

Before I announce the winner of this contest, I wanted to share three last-minute entries!

The first is an amazing food creation from Pikko, who has created several Lost-themed Bento Boxes!

The second is from Estella; she and her boyfriend recreated THE Penny and Des photo while in Oahu. [sidenote: I went to her kickass Lost party in September, commemorating the 5 year anniversary of Flight 815!]

And the third is from Mike H; it is a close-up of the Locke-inspired eye opening scenes that we've been treated to in many episodes!

I would just like to thank all of you for your participation. The creativity of the Lost community never ceases to amaze me, and I appreciate that each of you took the time to recreate your version/vision of a Lost person, place or thing to share with us!

Here are all of the submissions; the winner is revealed at the bottom of the page!

This was VERY entertaining and quite a challenge to choose just one winning photo based on the criteria I was seeking.

But I had to make a decision, and my choice to win (the limited edition Lost: The Complete Fifth Season Dharma Initiative Orientation Kit DVD, a Got Lost? tee, a custom Hurley iPod Touch gelaskin cover and a box of Lost Season Two Premium Trading cards) is...Dustin!!

I chose this photo for many reasons, but I do love the details that Dustin and his wife thought about when they recreated this scene from This Place is Death: from Faraday's beard, unkempt hair and skinny tie to Charlotte's spot-on attire. That she is a redhead and he is donning a Dharma construction hat (a nod to his time traveling days to the Orchid in the 70's) are icing on the cake.

So congratulations to Dustin - I hope to ship out your box of goodies this weekend! By the way, Dustin has a pop culture blog and has been writing his own Lost Rewatch analysis, so make sure to check out his site when you get a chance. :)

Seriously - THANK YOU to everyone who entered! I would love to send each of you one of my custom Lost Fan pins, so if you're interested simply email me your address.

Namaste, and don't forget that Lost S5 on DVD & Blu-ray debuts tomorrow, and Lost University officially launches as well!

LOST S5 Dharma DVD Giveaway: Photo Contest Entries, Pt 4

Last call! Today is the last day to submit your photos to enter for a chance to win a Lost S5 Dharma DVD set plus three other pieces of memorabilia. Click here to view the rules for eligibility.

I posted the third batch of photos yesterday, and a few new entries have been submitted since:

The first is from Rhiannon; she recreates the infamous Desmond & Penny photo.

The second is from Suzanne E; her dog is channeling Vincent, bringing a piece of Roger Linus to our attention.

And the third photo is from Sara B, who calmly faces Smokey on the island!

The deadline for submitting photos is 9pm PST. I will announce the winner either late tonight or early tomorrow!

LOST S5 Dharma DVD Giveaway: Photo Contest Entries, Pt 3

Last week I posted the first and second batches of photos from fellow Lost fans who have entered to win a limited edition Lost Season 5 Dharma DVD set and bonus prizes from my personal memorabilia collection. The contest ends tomorrow night, so you still have time! Click here to review the rules for eligibility.

[I altered the above photo of Faraday for fun; I wanted to play along!]

Here is the third group of creative entries:

The first is from John P, who was Charlie for Halloween.

The second is from Patty; she and her boyfriend recreated the Penny & Desmond photo while on vacation in Hawaii last year!

The third is from Nick G, who took this photo through a real looking glass (in this case, a coffee mug filled with water)!

The fourth is from Claire G; she and her sister are giving Hurley's Dharma van a little push down the hill for his joy ride. :)

The fifth is from Susan H, who took my instructions literally (to think outside of the Locke Box)!

The next few photos were submitted by Lost fans who live outside of the US and Canada; although they are not eligible to win this contest, they submitted fun entries nonetheless and I appreciate it!

Amanda W from Australia is facing her own version of the Black Smoke Monster!

Troy K from Australia has created a rather menacing version of Locke with his knife, up from the wheelchair!

And my friend Thorsten in Germany submitted this beautiful and clever photo for us to enjoy; situated above a German RISK map, he is holding in his own hand a scene on his iPhone from S5 when Locke is holding the compass!
---
The contest ends tomorrow night (Monday, 12/7), so email me YOUR interpretation of a Lost scene (person, place or thing) today!

Oh, and just for kicks, in addition to the DVD set, custom Hurley iPod Touch gelaskin and Got Lost? tee...I will throw in a box of sealed LOST Season Two Premium Trading Cards for the winner.
