FYI: Facebook Deleted Me (Updated)

UPDATE: Facebook deleted my profile because I also had a Jeremy Bentham page, which violates their terms of service. I also had to prove that I was a real person; thus, you will now see my last name. They gave me a choice to keep one or the other, and obviously I told them to delete Bentham's profile. To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised that it took less than 24 hours to get my profile reinstated, given that there are 200 million FB users and I was not the only one with that issue yesterday. And I must thank all of YOU for your amazing support! Word spread like wild fire, and both Hillary P and Erika O were instrumental in this process. Huge kudos to the online Lost community for this victory. :)

Original Post

Since I am unable to reach most of my regular Lost readers now, I wanted to alert you to the fact that Facebook deleted my everyday Jo JOpinionated profile without notice or reason.

Remember when Smokey was unleashed and went after Keamy's mercenaries like a locomotive on a mission? That blind rage is exactly what I feel right now.

This started out as a fantastic day, because Jeff Jensen mentioned my Looking Glass theory in an Entertainment Weekly article. Right after I emailed him a thank you note, Facebook inexplicably deleted my existence.

If you are so inclined, I would love some assistance notifying the 1,300 friends I had on Facebook; perhaps post a link to this or mention it in status updates? No pressure. Any help would be appreciated.

I will be fighting this with every ounce of energy in my soul, and will keep you posted.

-Jo

p.s. In the meantime, I will update the situation on Twitter if you're interested.

Have you gotten a reason? I love your page, so anything I can do to help!

Your upset is understandable but I trust your blog readers will find their way here. As you suggested I posted the link here as my status update and hope some of our mutual friends/LOST fans will check it out.

Hey Jo, So sorry to hear about your FB account being deleted. With Smokey in your corner, I'm sure your account will be back in order soon and you'll be back in business before tonight's episode is over. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Hey Jo,

I wonder, what happened? You just logged in, and it said your account didn't existed?

Something similar happened to me some months ago, and just ended up being some random maintenance thing. I was, as you are, freaked out: I couldn't log in, all my pictures were unaccessible, and pictures from other people that I was tagged in, didn't had my tag.

It was online again in a couple of days. I hope this is the case with you.

What is going on with FB????? I am very angry that they think that they can just delete any thing that they want without any reason. If there is anything at all that I can do to help please let me know.

Oh man, that is AWFUL! I was just going to e-mail you on Facebook and saw that your account was gone. Erika posted info about it in your JOpinionated group on Facebook, so that's how I found out. I hope it's like the commenter earlier said, and just a maintenance fluke. But seeing what happened with your Bentham profile and that it happened the same day you got into Entertainment Weekly... So strange! You would think Facebook would like that additional traffic.

I hope you get this all worked out soon. :(

Hope to see you back in the facebook world soon, Jo! I heard through Erika as well, so it sounds like word is getting around. I hope this doesn't put too much of a damper on your day!

Unfortunately, FB can do whatever with your account, accidently or on purpose.
It's a drag that they just "lost" it, and haven't notified you about it. I wonder how many others have this same problem today? Hopefully, they will "rescue" your pages & restore the timeline.
You should have a Twitter page, as Aplle is about to buy Twitter & make it a really good place to be.

Jo, are you also Jeremy Bentham on FB? If so, that is probably why you were deleted. FB doesn't allow multiple accounts.

That is totally unacceptable! I wondered what happened to you!

Jo, I will not stop reading your blog...love it...hooked on it! For what it's worth, I am secretly hoping that you will stay up all night writing about tonight's ep, because it is AWESOME!!!

I just thought of something...what if Richard is Jacob? Richard is the only one who knows where to find him, he's mysteriously ageless, he knows every inch of the island, and he serves as an "advisor" to the leader of the Others but also made himself known to the Dharma initiative and the Oceanic survivors. He could be interested in connecting with every group on the island because it's important for him to know all there is to know about island happenings, which would make him an easy match for the "all-knowing" Jacob.

Jo, commenting about this week's epi--I'm rather disenchanted with Richard at the moment. For so long I've held him up as some immortal island guru...a know-all/see-all kind of character. But this week he seemed strangely clueless. It sure is bugging me.

Be careful with those assholes. They only want your name so they can link you to their marketing schemes and maybe even for darker purposes. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I am against a surveillance society, and Facebook, behind the pretty colors is providing information to third parties. In the older social networking sites you could be whoever you wanted to be. Now you have to 'prove' to them that you're you. How convenient.
